Datsun Hindsight radio

The New Datsun Go is the perfect starter car for many South Africans. And while it may be on the cheaper end of the spectrum, it comes with great safety features like reverse parking assist, which alerts the driver to potentially disastrous driving mishaps before they happen.

We created a radio campaign that immerses the listener in a trio of cautionary tales. From an overly trusting relationship with a python, to a Tinder date gone all shades of murdery, each story looks back at the missteps our protagonists took on their fateful journeys, from the singular vantage of hindsight, linking straight back to the New Datsun Go’s reverse parking assist.

Fluffy radio spot

Script

VO:  Gladys had dreamed of becoming close to her pet python, but not so close as to be unceremoniously gulped. Yet here she finds herself, squished up in Fluffy’s digestive tract.

“Why didn’t I see the signs?” thinks Gladys as she calls on the clarity of hindsight.

Looking back, a bed shared with a three-meter carnivore more closely resembles a serving platter than a place of rest.

Looking back further, to self-medicate insomnia with three extra-strength sleeping tablets was careless at best.

Looking back even further, Gladys’s brand new bunny onesie surely sent Fluffy the wrong message. Soft, warm, deceptively realistic.

And now, as the serpent’s acidic stomach juices start to do their thing, Gladys has one final revelation: Fluffy was not an empathetic listener, willing cuddler, nor companionable confidant. Fluffy was nothing but a very patient predator.

With hindsight, it’s easy to see disaster coming.

Luckily, in the New Datsun Go with reverse parking assist, you’ll never need to look back again.

Melissa radio spot

Script

VO:   Fleeing the crazed clutches of a homicidal hottie is no way to spend a first date – a lesson Collin has just learnt through some harrowing first-hand experience. Naked but for his turquoise tanga briefs, he listens out for Melissa, his maniacal match. “Why, oh why did I swipe right?!” curses Collin as he calls on the clarity of hindsight.

Looking back, while a blindfold is a sexy touch, it somehow loses its charm when paired with a circuitous drive into a dark, reception-free forest.

Looking back further, although Collin was taking his therapist’s advice to “worry less and live more”, agreeing to a game of “murder-murder in the woods” was possibly too bold a first step into the world of happy-go-lucky living.

Now, as Melissa’s terrifying calls get alarmingly close, Collin has one final hindsight-fueled epiphany: no matter what Dr. Feinstein might say, somethings really are worth worrying about – like a Tinder bio that simply reads: “I like to cut things. Dagger emoji, dagger emoji, dagger emoji.”

With hindsight, it’s easy to see disaster coming.

Luckily, in the New Datsun Go with reverse parking assist, you’ll never need to look back again.

Francis Bacon radio spot

Script

VO: “A residential flat is no place to raise a pig” accepts Camilla as she stares up at the smoldering crags of her freshly incinerated apartment. Here she lies, singed and splayed out on the front lawn, surrounded by the sizzling, charred chunks of her beloved pet pig. “Oh Francis Bacon, how different things could have been” croaks Camilla as she calls on the clarity of hindsight.

Looking back, there are other ways to test for methane gas. Ways that do not involve striking a match.

Looking back further, leaving a hedonistic hog alone in a bachelor flat with a 1kg bag of dried fruit was asking for explosive trouble.

Looking back even further, she should have known her online shopping addiction had reached a crisis point when she started wishlisting micro livestock.

Now, freeing herself from the sticky, strewn remains of her former flat mate, Camilla finally accepts what she’d so long chosen to deny: there really is no such thing as a teacup pig, is there?

With hindsight, it’s easy to see disaster coming.

Luckily, in the New Datsun Go with reverse parking assist, you’ll never need to look back again.
